Training & Technical Visits on

Eco Innovation, Environment & Sustainable Development

Monday 9th - Friday 13th September 2013

A course taking place on the Mediterranean island of Malta.


Course Outline:


In September 2013, MECB will be organizing a 5-day course on Eco Innovation, Environment & Sustainable Devleopment coupled with a number of Technical visits on the island of Malta. Applicants can obtain an EU Grant to cover travelling, accommodation and course fee expenses.

In line with EU Commission guidelines, the course is structured aroud the following pillars:

  • Technical Training on Sustainable & Eco Innovation
  • Pedagogic Training on exploiting e-Learning
  • Related Technical Visits
  • Social/Cultural Program to help participants experience Maltese lifestyle, culture & customs.


  This course which has attracted numerous participants from across Europe in the last 5 years, is approved by the EU Commission for a Grundtvig/Commenius training grant. The cousre is listed in the EU Training Database as course number MT-2011-569-005 ( SESSION ID: 38040).
Course Target Audience
  • Adult educators, mentors and tutors in any field and the trainers of such educators;
  • Higher Education Institution (eg University) staff members;
  • Heads and managerial staff of institutions/organisations providing adult learning opportunities;
  • Primary, Secondary & Vocational School Teachers;
  • Staff working with adults with specfic educational needs;
  • Staff working with persons at risk, for example, mediators and street educators;
  • Staff involved in intercultural adult education or working with migrant workers and travellers;
  • Counsellors or career advisors;
  • Teachers/individuals interested in improving their English language competence as the course will be organized in English in the English speaking island of Malta.
Course Programme: This 5-day (Monday- Friday) course is structured as follows:
Day 1
- Participant Introduction;
- Introduction to Eco & Sustainable Innovation Concepts;
- Relevance of Eco Innovation to an Enlarged European Union (EU);
- The Economic perspective of Eco-Innovation & related case-studies;
- Social Event;
Day 2
- Understanding Innovation & Creativity;
- Introduction to Creativity Methods & Tools
- Eco-Design Principles
- Innovation Technology: Demo of 3D CAD Modelling
- Eco-Design Case-Studies: An In-Flight Catering Trolley;
- Social Event;
Day 3
- Environmental & Social Perspectives of SD;
- BioDiesel – A Typical Eco-Innovation Product;
- Case-Study Observation visit(s) around the islands of Malta & Gozo;
- Social Event;
Day 4
- Innovations in Knowledge Transfer: The EKO-SCHOOL Project
- Introduction to e-Learning Concepts & how to develop
e-Learning Content for Eco- Innovation;
- EU Training & Funding Mechanisms Related to Eco-Innovation
- Social Event;
Day 5
- Strategies on how the course can be marketed to other potential EU
stakeholders and/or citizens;
- Participants evaluation;
- Training Course feedback by Course Participants;
- Course Closure.
Attendees will be issued with both a 'Certificate of Attedance' and also a 'Europass Mobility Document' outlining competencies acquired.
How to apply for an EU grant to attend the course?

EU citizens, can apply for a grant covering travelling, accomodation/meals and course training fee costs. The procedure is outlined below:

  1. Contact us for a a provisional letter of acceptance from our end. To do so, please fill in and submit our simple (one page only) pre-registration form, as soon as possible to pjf@mecb.com.mt who will also guide you further with the application process.

  2. Contact your EU Grundtvig/Commenius National Agency (click here to find the contact details of your National Agency) and ask them for a Grundtvig or Commenius In-Service Training Course Application Form. Check with them which is appropriate in your case.

  3. Submit the Application Form complete with our Acceptance Letter to your National Agency by not later than 30th April 2013. The sooner you submit the better.

  4. After several weeks, you will be informed by your National Agency on the outcome of your grant application. At that stage inform us immediately of your application outcome so that we can confirm your place on our course. At that stage, you will be guided accordingly from our end on how to proceed with preparations necessary for your week's training course in Malta.
  Non-EU citizens having their own source of funds can still apply for our course at the same training fee.
Course Fee :

The training course is of Euro 750 covering training material, lectures, course visits, coffee breaks and morning lunch. The remaining EU grant funds you obtain will be used by yourself to cover you travelling costs to Malta and also hotel accomodation/evening meals.

  Places will be reserved on this course on a first-come-first served basis when course fees are paid.
